The full explanation on what PigKnob is and does is available here:
See engraving note below.
This is the fully assembled PigKnob from Pignology. It is a remote tuning knob for amateur (and commercial) radios that use a plain-text CAT control protocol. This would include radio's from Elecraft, Kenwood and Yaesu. The knob has two serial ports, one goes to your computer and one goes to the radio; it would connect in-line. The knob will proxy serial data from your computer to the radio if you're running a rig control application.
The knob's functions are completely customizable. You can define the command that is sent with each button press and when the knob rotates in either direction. There is a switch in the encoder that allows you to switch to fast tuning mode, this fast mode command is also user defined.
The knob ships with the buttons configured to switch between various bands and modes on Elecraft radios. When using the knob with other radios you would need to reconfigure the macros tied to the buttons based on the manufacturer's documentation of your radio.
As of September 2014 the PigKnob now works with the FT-817/857/897 radios from Yaesu.
NOTE: This knob will not work with Icom radios.
In the box:
- Satellite Interface Board
- Power Cable (Barrel and tinned leads)
- Six Conductor Phone Cable
- Two Pig Googly Eyes
A serial cable for your radio is not included. If you need a standard, straight through, serial cable, there are short cables here in the shop. If you need a gender changer for Kenwood/Yaesu radios, those are available here as well.
Knobs can be engraved by a third-party. Contact Ken, WB2ART, of Arkay Engravers
